General Information

A GENERAL OVERVIEW:

SCHEDULES Beginners come to class on Mondays.  Advanced students come on Tuesdays. Intermediate students come on Wednesdays. Students will sometimes need to come to classes on Saturdays, depending on what we are practicing for. Also, when you become a member of the St. Louis Irish Arts family, you will sometimes have to join us for performances on other days of the week. You don't have to take part in every single performance, but obviously we can't put on shows without our students.

COSTUMES Costumes: Each student is given a school costume to wear for performances and Competitions – Feiseanna. Advanced students may also purchase their own solo dress to wear at performances. These must be approved by the teacher. A large selection of dresses are available at the school or on the internet. Solo dresses can also be custom ordered. A  rental and cleaning fee applies annually for renting the SLIA costume.

DANCING SHOES You can rent dancing shoes from us or buy your own.

TIN WHISTLE Your child will receive their first tin whistle when they register. There is no extra charge for the first tin whistle. However, if you lose that one, you will need to purchase subsequent tin whistles.

OTHER INSTRUMENTS All students learn to play the tin whistle. In Irish schools, every student learns to play the tin whistle. We do the same at St. Louis Irish Arts. Private Lessons/2nd Instruments: Dedicated and progressing students are also given the opportunity to play a second instrument of their choice. For these instruments, private lessons with SLIA teachers are recommended in order for students to progress. SLIA teachers are available to give private tuition on: Harp, Fiddle, Tin Whistle, Flute, Banjo, Concertina, Piano Accordion, Button Accordion,Uilleann Pipes, Piano, Bodhrán and Mandolin
